CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – Central Luzon police announced on Saturday (December 5) the capture of a union leader labeled as the secretary of the New People’s Army.
However, José Bernardino told INQUIRER that he organizes labor and transportation groups, being the leader of the Workers’ Alliance in Region III, and has no links with the armed rebels.
Bernardino was shown to the media at a press conference led by Brig. General Valeriano de León, director of the regional police, but was transferred to the Pampanga prosecutor’s office for an investigation process.
Colonel Amante Daro, head of the Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, said that Bernardino was arrested in the village of Sapang Maisac in Mexico City on Friday (December 4), in an operation that was carried out ” regularly”.
Daro said the arrest warrant issued by a court in Nueva Vizcaya involved the murder of four soldiers in 2017 in the city of Kasibu. The police await the arrest warrant from the Nueva Vizcaya court.
De Leon said that Bernandino had a reward of P4.8 million because he had been placed on the national wanted list of the DND-DILG (Department of National Defense-Department of the Interior and Local Government).
Daro said police are taking care of Bernardino, who said he has a heart condition and has been taking blood-thinning medications.
He also announced the death of Fernando Poblacio alias “Ka Bert” in a meeting with police and Army soldiers in the province of Tarlac on Friday night. TONNETTE EARS INQ
