CEBU CITY, Philippines – Super Typhoon Rolly will have no direct effect on Cebu City or downtown Cebu, but Mayor Edgardo Labella wanted to be sure the city is prepared for any eventuality.
Labella has ordered the City’s Disaster Risk Reduction Office (CDRRMO) to be on full alert as of this Sunday, November 1, to especially monitor possible flash floods and landslides that can result from torrential rains.
“We don’t want to take risks. Even if there is no warning sign, this is a super typhoon, we have to be prepared, “he said.
Labella told CDN Digital that the city’s heavy equipment is now stationed in landslide-prone areas, while the Department of Public Service (DPS) has been instructed to work on cleaning waterways. The city’s emergency services are also on standby in an emergency.
As the city prepares for Super Typhoon Rolly, Labella asks city residents to stay home, especially since cemeteries will be closed during All Saints and All Saints Day celebrations.
He is also asking residents, especially those who live in areas prone to flooding and landslides, to be vigilant.
Northern Cebu came under Storm Signal No. 1 early this Sunday morning due to Super Typhoon Rolly.
