Kuwait City: A Kuwaiti woman was sentenced to death after she killed a 26-year-old Filipino domestic worker, Jeanelyn Villavende, local media reported.

Her husband was also convicted and sentenced to four years for failing to report the crime and cover it up.

Fawzia Al Sabah, the main council of the Philippine Embassy, ​​noted that the court’s ruling was fair and adhered to Kuwaiti law and Sharia law.

In a statement, the Embassy said, “may the court’s decision on Villavende’s murder case serve as a reminder to all that no Filipino is a slave to anyone, anywhere and everywhere, and that justice will always come. in defense of the weak and the oppressed. “

Villavende was killed on December 28, 2019 and according to the autopsy report carried out at the Sabah hospital it was found that she died of acute heart and respiratory failure as a result of shock and multiple injuries to the vascular nervous system. Furthermore, an official autopsy from the Philippines found that he had been sexually abused before his death.

Philippine Foreign Secretary Teddy Locsin Jr. tweeted after the assassination: “THERE WILL BE BLOOD @DFAPHL for Jeanelyn Villavende. I renounce and decline any offer of blood money for his torture / murder. I want two lives for the life that were taken. “

Kuwait denounced the comments made by Locsin and a high-level official source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “Kuwait expresses dismay and denunciation of this statement which includes a rejected transgression of the powers of the judicial and security authorities in the country” .

Following the killing, the Philippine government imposed a ban on the deployment of new domestic workers in Kuwait. A month later, the decision was reversed after the Philippine government brought charges against the killer and the two countries decided to implement a harmonized employment contract for Philippine domestic workers.
