The Gin Kings, who lead 3-1 in their best-of-seven playoffs, clinch the 2020 Philippine Basketball Association Philippines Cup championship with a victory. Geneva will attempt to continue their 98-88 Game 4 victory over TNT last Sunday when LA Tenorio edged out Roger Pogoy in a sharp-shooter battle. Pogoy drilled consecutive 3s to reduce Geneva’s 17-point lead to just 3 points, 88-85, with 2:50 to play. Tenorio responded with his own triple to extend the lead to 6 points, 91-85. Pogoy drilled another triple to cut the lead to 3 points, 91-88. But Tenorio responded again with his own triple to advance Geneva by 6 points, 94-88. Pogoy eventually failed on TNT’s offensive end and the Tropang Giga couldn’t score after that. Scottie Thompson and Tenorio finished the count, 98-88, after each scored a field goal. In addition to Tenorio and Thompson, Geneva will also feature goal scorer Stanley Pringle. Also expected to contribute is the versatile Thompson, who narrowly missed a triple-double during Geneva’s Game 4 win, as well as the athletic Japeth Aguilar. Playing quality minutes are veterans Jared Dillinger and Joe Devance. If those veterans play the most minutes, then Geneva should be a piece of cake to win the crown tonight. TNT has a chance if Geneva manager Tim Cone chooses to give important minutes to his younger players in Aljon Mariano, Arvin Tolentino and Prince Caperal. TNT will be the weakest. Team mainstays Ray Parks and Jayson Castro are listed as day to day and may be left out of the possible closing game today. Parks has a hurt leg, while Castro has stubborn knees. Parks, TNT’s leading scorer, hasn’t seen any action since Game 2. Castro limped out of Game 4. Expected to take over for TNT are Pogoy, Troy Rosario and Simon Enciso. The Tropang Giga will also need solid contributions from veterans Ryan Reyes and Jay Washington. The two can’t just provide a blocking defense on Aguilar and Pringle. They will also have to score points if Tropang Giga hopes to extend the series to Game 6 and possibly Game 7.
