A calendar event commemorating a total revolution around the sun doesn’t necessarily mean things are going to change overnight, but for the Spurs there is hope that 2021 will bring new fortunes. Their loss to the Lakers two nights ago already felt like it was a year ago, and while tonight’s rematch was closer and more competitive throughout, the good guys still lost to the defending champs.

Keldon Johnson’s career-high scoring night (with a 26-10 double-double for good measure) gives the Spurs additional hope that good luck will come sooner rather than later. Tonight, his inexhaustible energy on both ends of the court and his shot from the center (5 of 9) were the highlights for the Spurs:

Perhaps the most welcome spectacle of the night was Derrick White’s return from toe surgery, and it made an immediate impact, even in limited minutes. Welcome to 2021, Derrick! Stay a while and keep doing moves like this:

New years, new parties. Come on Spurs come on!

Next, the Spurs will face the Utah Jazz on Sunday, January 3, 2021 to finish a 3-game home stand.
