If the security forces have no evidence against people who they believe have taken up arms against the government, they should just keep quiet.
This was Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana’s advice to security officials amid backlash over Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr.’s controversial comments against celebrities Liza Soberano, Angel Locsin and Catriona Gray.
“What I think about it is that if there is no evidence yet, don’t talk about it,” Lorenzana told reporters, adding that she will seek a meeting with other members of the National Task Force to End the Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF). -Elcac). .
Lorenzana said he would request a meeting with Parlade, who is the spokesperson for NTF-Elcac in addition to being the commander of the army’s Luzon Southern Command, and National Security Advisor Hermogenes Esperon to discuss the matter.
“Although Elcac is a very good idea, it is not okay to shoot everyone. [We] it must be selective. We should have proof … Otherwise, just keep quiet, ”said the defense secretary.
“Because this uproar has already grown, I think we should talk about what to do,” said Lorenzana, one of 20 members of the NTF-Elcac, which is chaired by President Duterte himself with Esperon as vice president.
Parlade came under fire after making several controversial comments about Gray, who was threatened with rape online, and Soberano when they expressed their support for women’s and children’s rights in online forums organized by the Gabriela Women’s Party’s youth wing.
Parlade has qualified Gabriela and other organizations from communist fronts, although the Court of Appeals has not outlawed Gabriela as a terrorist organization, as required by law, and the Constitution protects the right of people to express their beliefs in a lawful manner.
Both the Sovereign and Locsin camps criticized Parlade’s comments that not only endangered them but also their families.
On Friday, Locsin urged authorities to stop her “red labeling” of ordinary people like her who express their opinions about her defenders.
In a post on Facebook, the actress denied that she, her sister Ella Colmenares and her nephew Neri Colmenares, a former congressman, were part of the New People’s Army or “any terrorist group.”
“I appeal to the authorities to correct this error. Stop the red labeling. The claim is absolutely false and endangers citizens like us, whom they swore to protect, ”said the actress.
She said she was always “attacked” for her vocal stance on issues, but this time she couldn’t keep quiet because she endangers the safety of her family.
