Jordan Clarkson gives Kai Sotto some advice: ‘Keep working’

For the past six years, Jordan Clarkson has known the ins and outs of staying in the NBA.

That’s why the 28-year-old Clarkson has a simple piece of advice for Kai Sotto as he walks into the Association through the G League.

“The best advice I have given you is to stay in the gym, keep working,“Said Clarkson, who signed a four-year deal with Utah worth $ 51,520,000 last month.

Clarkson’s journey to the NBA is very different from Sotto’s.

The Filipino-American spent four years in college before being chosen as the 46th overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2014.

He spent four years in Los Angeles before being sent to Cleveland and, later, to Utah.

But there was also a moment during his rookie year when he spent a considerable amount of time with the Lakers G League affiliate D-Fenders, averaging 22.6 points, 7.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds in five games played.

It’s a moment Sotto should enjoy, Clarkson said.

“When you’re surrounded by NBA pros, guys, and coaches, just having that and having those experiences will make it better.”Clarkson said, as Sotto has the opportunity to play with NBA veterans and is under former Denver coach Brian Shaw.

However, one thing he and Sotto have in common is that they must prove themselves worthy of recruitment.

And being in the second league will only bring good things for Sotto.

“It will be great for them, especially at a young age. I think those guys who have those experiences, eye-opening experiences that a lot of kids don’t have, it will be good for them. The 2015 All-Rookie first team member said.

“So, with that underneath, I’m just telling you guys to put your nose down and keep grinding and setting the time because everything will work out at the end of the day.”
