MANILA, Philippines – The Japanese Coast Guard has moved on to its regular maritime patrol of “full-time” search operations for the missing crew members of the Gulf Livestock-1 cattle ship that sank off Japan’s water last week. last, the Department of Foreign Relations (DFA) said.
In a statement Thursday, the DFA said that Japanese authorities decided to move from their “full-time search operations … to their usual patrol arrangements” as no trace of the sunken Panamanian-flagged ship has been found since the September 5.
The ship, which disappeared and was reported to have sunk on September 3 in the East China Sea on its way to China from New Zealand due to Typhoon Maysak, was carrying 43 crew members: 39 from the Philippines, two from New Zealand and two from Australia. .
Of the Filipino sailors, two have already been found alive and one has died.
“DFA joins families and loved ones in continuing prayers for the missing seafarers,” said DFA.
The DFA and the Department of Labor and Employment have previously ensured that necessary assistance will be provided to Filipino sailors and their families.
