Jamie Lim Says Parents Never Pressured Her

MANILA, Philippines – When one’s parents excel in their respective fields, it is easy for them to expect the same level of prosperity from their children.
But for the great Samboy “The Skywalker” Lim of the PBA and the accomplished lawyer and businesswoman Darlene Berberabe, pressuring their daughter Jamie was out of the question.
“My parents, both parents, are very supportive and never really pushed me to be as awesome as they are,” champion Karateka Jamie said during the season finale of Tiebreaker Vods’ So She Did podcast.
“They just love me and what was important to them was that I do the best I can in everything I do,” he said.
Regardless, Jamie was not short on any successes and enjoyed many triumphs in his young age.
Like his mother, Jamie graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of the Philippines.
Upon completion of her BS Mathematics course, Jamie graduated at the top of her class.
Then, like his father, Jamie also excelled in sports a few months later, winning a gold medal at the 30th Southeast Asian Games held in Manila.
Jamie, who is also in the running for the delayed Summer Olympics in Tokyo next year, admitted that while her parents weren’t looking for the same success for her, it was she herself who felt the need to follow in their footsteps.
“I think that pressure came from myself because I admire my mom and dad so much,” Jamie said.
“They are the best for me, they are the best in their field, they are still down to earth and caring and I just aspire to be like them, so I really want to be like them.” .
Already successful like her parents at the age of 23, Jamie’s potential can propel her to be the best in her own field, just as her parents were in theirs.
