Rumors persist about James Harden and a possible trade

The Philadelphia 76ers are considered the favorites to land James Harden over the Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat and the Milwaukee Bucks, according to a recent report. Marc Stein report from the New York Times.

The situation remains difficult and staying with the Houston Rockets at least to start the 2020-21 season seems like a very likely option. Harden has two more guaranteed seasons on his contract leaving him with little influence and the Rockets with plenty of time to operate in the future.

The four Eastern Conference teams among their preferences would have to sacrifice key players to make a trade work within salary cap regulations. Looking at the 76ers’ case, one way would be to send Ben Simmons to Houston.

The Nets and Heat would also have to give up top players and draft picks in a possible deal. A much more complicated situation arises for the Bucks, as they currently lack the assets to complete such an operation.

The 31-year-old Harden has two years left on his contract valued at approximately $ 83 million and a player option for the 2022-23 season. His salary is a challenge for the four teams mentioned unless they are willing to completely alter their roster.
