Jakarta to host FIBA ​​Asia Cup next year

The Southeast Asian country will host the continental competition two years before co-hosting the FIBA ​​World Cup 2023 with the Philippines and Japan.

As hosts, Indonesia is assured of a place in the Asian Cup, but will have to secure a place in the quarterfinals to receive a place in the World Cup.

“We are very proud to host the FIBA ​​Asia Cup in Jakarta next year, it is an excellent platform for Indonesia to showcase its basketball potential,” said President of the Indonesian Basketball Federation (PERBASI), Danny Kosasih.

“It will also help us prepare for the 2023 FIBA ​​Basketball World Cup, both as an organizer and as a national team,” he added.

Sixteen teams will compete in the tournament that became a quadrennial tournament in 2017 after FIBA ​​made significant changes to its competition format.

Lebanon and Bahrain won the first two places in the Asian Cup thanks to their performances in the first two windows of the Qualifiers.

The third window is scheduled for February, with Clark, Pampanga set to host two groups.

Indonesia hosted the Asian Cup in 1993, when the tournament was still known as the Asian Confederation of Basketball Championship.
