MANILA – Metro Manila’s 12 million residents will be under general community quarantine in November, along with several other areas, Malacañang said on Friday, despite calls from some local governments.
Some local officials had appealed against the initial lockdown classifications announced by President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, the interior department said. The interagency task force leading the response to the pandemic met Thursday.

The rest of the country is under modified GCQ, the least strict of 4 levels of lockdown, said Roque.
The mayors of Metro Manila had urged Duterte to maintain GCQ status in the region that accounts for about a third of the country’s gross domestic product until November 30.
