India reports highest peak of COVID-19 cases in a single day, infections in the Philippines exceed 250,000

HONG KONG, Sept.11 (Xinhua) – COVID-19 cases in Asia Pacific spiked as India reported a single-day peak of 96,551 new cases on Friday, while infections in the Philippines surpassed 250,000.

India’s COVID-19 count surpassed 4.5 million, reaching 4,562,414, and deaths reached 76,271, according to the latest data released by the federal Ministry of Health.

As of Thursday, 96,551 new COVID-19 cases and 1,209 deaths have been recorded across India.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines rose to 252,964 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 4,040 new cases. The number of recoveries also rose to 186,606 after 566 more patients recovered and 42 more patients died from the viral disease, bringing the death toll to 4,108.

Bangladesh reported 1,792 new COVID-19 cases and 34 new deaths, bringing the tally to 334,762 and the death toll at 4,668, the General Directorate of Health Services (DGHS) said.

COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 3,737 in one day to 210,940, and the death toll rose by 88 to 8,544, the Health Ministry said.

Malaysia reported 182 new COVID-19 infections, the Health Ministry said, bringing the national total to 9,810. The Director General of the Health Ministry, Noor Hisham Abdullah, said in a press release that one of the new cases is imported and 181 are local broadcasts.

New Zealand confirmed a new community case of COVID-19 in Auckland. The new case has an epidemiological link to an existing case and is associated with the Mt Roskill Evangelical Fellowship group of bereavement events in Auckland, according to the Ministry of Health.

South Korea reported 176 more cases of COVID-19 compared to 24 hours ago, bringing the total number of infections to 21,919. The number of daily cases remained below 200 for nine days in a row, but continued to grow in triple digits since August 14.

Myanmar reported 115 more cases of COVID-19 infection on Friday morning, bringing the cases to 2,265, a statement from the Ministry of Health and Sports said.

According to the ministry, a total of 185,474 samples have been tested for COVID-19 since it was first detected in Myanmar on March 23, and 8,750 patients are currently under surveillance.

Cambodia’s Ministry of Health (MoH) said that all 274 positive COVID-19 patients in the kingdom had recovered, as the country had detected no new cases since late August.
