Starting Monday, all incoming international commercial and charter flights will be able to land at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on assigned days.
In a notice to airmen (Notam) released on Saturday, the Philippine Civil Aviation Authority (CAAP) said that incoming international chartered flights could only land on Mondays and Thursdays, provided they obtain authorization from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Caap for grooving purposes.
Commercial flights
On the other hand, scheduled international incoming commercial flights would be allowed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, provided that they obtain CAAP approval 48 hours before the scheduled departure from the airport of origin for the assignment and rescheduling of necessary flights on to subscribe to NAIA’s 400 passenger capacity per day.
Naia is currently in limited operations due to the new coronavirus disease pandemic (COVID-19).
CAAP said that en-route flights experiencing emergencies, ferry / cargo flights, air ambulance and medical supplies flights, government / military flights, climate mitigation flights, maintenance flights, and departure ferry / cargo flights with passengers, As authorized, they will have no restrictions. and it would not be covered by Notam.
The restrictions, which will last for a month, or until June 10, will be implemented only in Naia, as other international airports in the country would have separate restrictions, CAAP said.
Aircraft “without passengers”
The Department of Transportation, on the recommendation of the National Task Force on the COVID-19 Response, previously suspended incoming international commercial passenger flights into Naia for a week, as various agencies hastened arrangements to test, quarantine, and accommodate Filipinos arriving from abroad, mostly foreign Filipinos. workers displaced by the pandemic.
This forced foreign airlines to fly “passengerless” planes to Naia to search for outgoing customers.
Under the rules previously established by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases, the only people authorized to fly into the country from abroad are Filipino citizens, their immediate family members, foreigners on permanent residence visas from the Philippines, and foreign diplomats.
