ICTSI added another 150 meters to the MICT Berth 7, “creating a 600-meter contiguous berth along with the adjacent Berth 6 to accommodate vessels of more than 8,000 TEU capacity,” the company said in an emailed statement.
“The two piers currently have five quay cranes, with a design for up to six quay cranes,” ICTSI also noted.
The expansion of the container yard by 5.5 hectares complemented the expansion of the berth.
“This results in additional capacity for the terminal of approximately 200,000 TEU for loaded containers and 150,000 TEU for empty,” he said.
The ICTSI Executive Vice President said the improvements will allow the Philippines to easily handle the additional volumes expected on the way to the economic restart.
“In addition, this will allow us to continue to perform our tasks as a vanguard to move critical goods that are still urgently needed,” he added.
MICT CEO and CEO Anders Dommestrup said: “We will continue to invest in terminal facilities to enhance our capacity, infrastructure and environmental footprint to provide the highest level of service.”
ICTSI saw its net attributable income for the January-September 2020 period decrease 1.21% to $ 182.61 million from $ 184.86 million a year earlier.
The company said it handled a consolidated volume of 7,426,307 TEU in the first nine months, 20% less than the 7,590,090 TEU handled in the same period of 2019.
