MANILA, Philippines – The Integrated Bar Association of the Philippines (IBP) is committed to building on the improvements it made in 2020 and continuing to provide rapid service in the legal profession as the country welcomes the New Year. .

In his New Year’s message, IBP National President Domingo Cayosa said that 2020 remains a fruitful year for the IBP despite the COVID-19 pandemic that disrupted normality, prompting some changes to legal procedures. .

“Despite the challenges and difficulties caused by the pandemic, 2020 was a fruitful and satisfying year for [IBP] as it promoted BILIS justice with information technology, served the needs and aspirations of its Chapters and members, enhanced partnerships and expanded international ties, helped respond to the needs of COVID 19 victims and leaders, ”he said Cayosa on Friday.

“We thank and honor God and all who work with us by boldly speaking the truth amid confusion and dishonesty; seek justice amid neglect, abuse, or fear; promoting peace in the midst of violence and crime. We humbly acknowledge our limitations, but we will not waver in our responsibilities, ”he added.

Apart from this, Cayosa also pointed out how the IBP lobbied for science and reason amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the confusion it generated among people and even officials.

“(IBP) advocated for science, reason and compassion to heal as one, provided help and comfort to pro bono clients and victims of natural disasters, and stood firm as a sentinel for the rule of law,” he explained.

“We welcome 2021 with hope and joy, as well as with renewed determination and courage to continue to do more, better and faster in the legal profession and in the justice sector,” he added.

IBP has remained a vocal observer of events in the country, commenting multiple times as problems arise amid the pandemic. Last October, the IBP said that the Implementing Rules and Regulations (TIR) of the controversial Anti-Terrorism Law may face challenges, as several lawyers have challenged the law before the Supreme Court.
