More gambling activities will now be allowed in areas under community quarantine.
This after the Inter-Institutional Working Group for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) allowed the resumption of off-track horse gambling and cockfighting in those areas in its Resolution No. 79, 2020 series.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said off-track horse gambling will be allowed in areas under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) or those with even lower community quarantine ratings “subject to health and safety protocols.”
He also said cockfighting will be allowed in areas under Modified GCQ (MGCQ) or lower community quarantine classifications also subject to the same health and safety protocols.
These protocols include the prohibition of in-person hearing, online or remote gambling, and live TV broadcast / broadcast of cockfighting.
IATF said local government units (LGUs) will have the final say if they will allow licensed booth operations and cockfighting activities in their localities.
In the same resolution, the IATF also authorized the Philippine Super League to hold its beach volleyball tournament under the concept of “sports bubble”.
“Strict observance of health and safety protocols will be finalized in coordination with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, the local Covid-19 Regional Working Group and the Department of Health of the local Center for Health Development for the necessary training in contact tracing, appointment of an occupational health and safety officer, and other rules that the aforementioned consider appropriate, ”said IATF.
