Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 22) – The Interagency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases eased age restrictions in areas under modified general community quarantine, allowing children ages 10 to 14 to leave as of February 1, the IATF spokesperson announced Friday. , Harry Roque.
“The Interagency Working Group (IATF) approved the recommendation to relax age-based restrictions for areas placed under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) effective February 1, 2021,” Roque said in a statement. The Commerce Department previously proposed lowering the age limit to help stimulate economic activity.
“Local government units (LGU), on the other hand, are obliged to adopt the same relaxation of age restrictions for areas under General Community Quarantine (GCQ),” added Roque.
Current IATF rules allow people ages 15-65 to leave their homes. Meanwhile, people covered by the age restrictions were only allowed to leave their homes to access essential items and services.
“Any person under ten (10) years old and those over sixty-five (65) years old must remain in their residence at all times,” said the official.
