LAJOSMIZSE, Hungary – With spring and COVID-19 vaccines in sight, Hungarian pastry chef Laszlo Rimoczi is sending a message of hope for Easter by creating chocolate bunnies out of vaccine syringes.
Rimoczi said the vaccines, made from fine Italian chocolate and dusted with silver powdered food coloring, indicate there is a way out of the coronavirus pandemic.
Unlike their Christmas chocolate Santa Claus, Rimoczi’s bunnies no longer wear masks.
“There are no vaccines to refill at all, it’s just good quality 100% Italian milk or dark chocolate,” Rimoczi said as he molded the chocolate vaccines in his small workshop in Lajosmizse, 70 km (45 miles) south of Budapest. . .
Rimoczi’s business, which makes chocolate delicacies and sells them in a small shop in his home, suffered losses when the pandemic struck last year. His biggest hit so far was the Masked Santas.
“For those who think … I will ruin the good mood of the children at Easter, I can make bunnies without vaccines as an alternative,” added Rimoczi.
Rimoczi has signed up for the government vaccination program and hopes to receive his true COVID-19 injection, but is waiting for the call from his GP.
