Actually, the title can be quite redundant. How? If you’re part of the crowd of super fans who demanded that Warner Bros. #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, chances are you enjoy this four-hour epic anyway. Hell, you’ve probably already seen it (“Zack Snyder’s Justice League” was released on HBO GO, March 18 at 3pm).
For those unaware of the long and troubled history of this project, director Zach Snyder had to resign while the 2017 version of “Justice League” was in production due to the death of his daughter. The bigwigs in the studio had director Joss Whedon (“The Avengers,” “The Avengers: Age of Ultron”) step in to finish the project. This resulted in a movie that fans (and critics) didn’t like (and that’s kindly to put it). Ideas during pre-production and during principal photography seemed to have suffered in final production.
After years of clamoring, the original director returns to the driver’s seat and delivers a film version true to his vision. It’s still early, but from what people are saying online, this version is the epic that fans deserved all along.
If you’re the casual viewer waiting for the weekend before airing “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” here are some tips for enjoying the four-hour superhero epic.
You can look at it directly or in parts.
Let’s talk about the obvious concern for casual viewers first. The movie lasts four hours and two minutes. It is twice as long as movies released in theaters.
But that’s the beauty of streaming these days. One can watch the movie from the comfort of their home and can even press the pause button if necessary.
Snyder’s “Justice League” is twice as long as the theatrical version because it explores deeper story arcs for its heroes (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg).
However, the filmmakers made things easier for viewers by dividing the film into six parts. Imagine watching “Justice League” as if it were your own miniseries!
Part 1: “Don’t count on it, Batman”
Part 2: “Age of Heroes”
Part 3: “Beloved Mother, Beloved Son”
Part 4: “Change machine”
Part 5: “All the King’s Horses”
Part 6: “Something darker”
It’s a new movie
Forget everything you know about 2017. “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” is a different beast. The movie adds never-before-seen footage featuring new villains (and a sighting of an old fan favorite). It even has a new ending and a new post-credits scene. The score has also been changed to a new one, performed by the original composer Junkie XL. Lastly, the visual effects have been added or redone.
Watch the previous movies first
Again, “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” will not be released in theaters, so that means you have the power of when and where to watch it. That said, viewers may want to see “Man of Steel” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” first (and in that order). “Justice League” is supposedly the third movie online.
