How Meralco limited Stanley Pringle to nine points in the second game

FOR Meralco to be successful in containing Stanley Pringle, the Bolts have to do the defensive work by committee.

Meralco coach Norman Black praised the Bolts’ effort to defend Pringle, which was limited to just nine points in the second game, where the Kings lost 95-77 and led the series to a 1-1 draw.

“We did a good job tonight. I started with Nards Pinto with him. We tried different types with it. Bong Quinto protected him for a time just to give him a different appearance, ”Black said.

Pringle wasn’t in his usual offensive game on Friday, shooting just 4 of 16 shots from the field, including a 1-of-7 clip from three. Even with his ability to attack the paint and take fouls, Pringle didn’t even earn a trip to the foul line in Game Two.

Black hopes the effort will continue into Game 3 as he knows Pringle is capable of regaining his offensive production that led him to become one of the singles award nominees in the PBA bubble.

The Meralco coach has previously described Pringle as one of the best players in the league today.

“Whatever you do, you’re not going to stop Stanley Pringle,” Black said. “It’s not going to happen. You try to slow down and get him to work as much as possible. Sometimes you try to get him to work on defense trying to get on his way offensively and attack him a little bit. We didn’t do too much of that, but at the same time, the individual defense has to be really good against him. “

“Off the ball, the defense has to be very good because if you don’t stay very close to him, he is one of the best players in the league to cut to the basket and cut without the ball,” Black said.
