Rodríguez said the complaint has not yet reached the committee. He said that the complaint presented to the Secretary will first be sent to the Spokesperson, who in turn will send the Order of the Day in plenary session within 10 days. It will then be forwarded to the committee within 3 days.

Rodríguez said that before the hearings, the committee must first determine whether the complaint meets the requirement of form and substance.

“I think there will be no more time. We will already have our recess sometime on December 18 and therefore we do not have material time at this time. Kasi wala pa ngang (still no) agenda. And that is why it will probably come next year for the determination of form and substance ”, he said. Rodríguez said that the process cannot be rushed “because we are talking here about the member of the highest magistrate, the highest court in the country.” “Looking at the calendar, I don’t see that we can start the hearing this year, Christmas season, and you know, this is Christmas, so let us receive it … we can probably decide on the form, we can decide on the background the actual hearing of the committee. it will be next year ”, he added.

The impeachment complaint against Leonen for alleged guilty violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust was presented to the House last Monday by Edwin Cordevilla, general secretary of the Philippine League of Defenders of Good Government-Maharlika.
