Holm failed in her bid to regain the UFC crown after being knocked out by reigning champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 239 held in July last year. She hopes a victory over Aldana will propel her back into the title contest. “My goal is to have the title. I want to retire with the title. I really believe strongly in the fact that if you are not fighting for a title, what are you fighting for? If you’re not trying to be number one, why are you struggling? That’s the difference between someone who just wants the participation ribbon or the gold medal. So, I’m always going for the gold, ”Holm said in the pre-fight interview. Holm said he does not underestimate the abilities of Aldana, whom he considers a formidable opponent. “The most important thing is that the only way to get there is to make the best statement with this fight and I can’t think beyond my opponent at the moment. So that’s what I’m going to do. Make the most of this fight and go from there, ”Holm said. Holm and Aldana will be the first women’s fight to headline a UFC card in the Middle East. It’s an honor Holm is only happy to receive. After all, she is a frequent forerunner in his career. “I like to be part of anything that makes history. One of the things I always wanted to do was do things that hadn’t been done before, so I thought, ‘You know what? I want to be the first person to have world titles in boxing and MMA. I want to be the first woman in this. I love being challenged to do something that hasn’t been done before. Well here we are. A small part of the story, ”Holm said. In a battle of the greats, Yorgan De Castro and Carlos Felipe try to bounce back from losses as they battle at heavyweight in the undercard’s co-main event. Other fights on the main card include Germaine De Randamie facing Julianna Pena at the women’s bantamweight; Kyler Phillips facing Cameron Else at bantamweight; and Dequan Townsend battling Dusko Todorovic at middleweight.
