With less than a week to go before the US presidential election, some voters in warring states have already made a decision by casting their votes early.

Many voters have chosen to vote early, either using mail-in ballots or by voting in person at local polling places. President Donald Trump has criticized vote-by-mail as a vehicle for possible election fraud, expressing concern that a final vote count will not be released until days after the election.

However, both Trump and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden have cast the first votes. Both candidates hope to attract voters in swing states, such as Arizona and Florida, where a political party has not established a strong bastion of support.

Arizona has registered 1,980,689 early votes so far. Democrats have cast 787,173 of those votes, while Republicans have cast 704,549 votes. Arizona makes no distinction between voting by mail and early voting in person.

Trump is expected to hold two campaign events in Arizona on Tuesday. Biden last visited the state in early October. Poll averages from Real Clear Politics show a close race between the two with Biden holding a small lead over Trump at 48.4 percent. Trump has 46.2 percent of voter support.

In Florida, Trump’s home state, 41.1 percent of Democrats voted early, either in person or by mail, while 37.5 percent of Republicans have already cast their votes. Between early voting in person and ballots received by mail, state election officials have received 6,921,358 early votes. Poll averages give Trump a slight lead in Florida. Trump has 48.2 percent of voter support, while Biden is close behind with 47.8 percent.

In Pennsylvania, Democrats have already turned over 1,354,624 votes, while Republicans have only returned 426,431 early votes. Taking into account the number of voters who did not claim to be affiliated with a party, a total of 1,978,486 ballots have been returned by mail in Pennsylvania.

Trump mocked Biden’s energy policies during campaign stops in Pennsylvania, drawing attention to Biden’s alleged opposition to fracking, a major Pennsylvania industry. Biden has denied those allegations. Despite Trump’s comments, he follows Biden in an average of state polls. Biden has 49.6 percent of voter support, while Trump has 45.8 percent.

As of Tuesday, 8,188,246 voters in Texas had already voted by mail or in person. Michigan has accepted 2,338,417 ballots in the absence of the 3,135,338 requested ballots.

Trump leads Biden in Texas by 2.6 percent with 48 percent support in the polls. Biden has 45.4 percent. In Michigan, where Trump has roundly criticized Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Biden is ahead by nearly 9 percentage points. Biden has 50.4 percent of the support, while Trump has 41.8 percent.

Ballots by mail have proven to be a more popular method of early voting than voting in person in Wisconsin. While 413,183 people have gone to a polling place to cast their vote, 1,132,393 voters have returned their ballots by mail.

During a campaign event Thursday, Trump emphasized his administration’s role in quelling demonstrations in Kenosha over racism and police brutality. “We sent in the National Guard and we saved Kenosha,” Trump said.

Based on poll averages, Biden has 50.3% of Wisconsin’s voter support, while Trump lags behind with 43.9%.

In Iowa, 815,921 ballots have been returned by mail. Almost half of them were from registered Democrats who sent 396,357 votes by mail. Republicans have returned 262,562 ballots by mail.

Some observers consider Iowa to be a state of confusion. Biden is expected to campaign in Iowa on Friday. According to polling averages from the political website FiveThirtyEight, Biden has a slight lead over Trump at 47.7 percent. Trump has 46.1 percent in the polls, marking the difference between the two candidates by 1.6 percent.

Minnesota counts all initial ballots, whether they are received by mail or in person, alike. As of Friday, 1,186,522 Minnesota voters had already cast their ballots.

Although Minnesota has not cast its electoral votes for a Republican candidate since 1972, Trump only lost the state in the 2016 presidential election by 1.5 percentage points. The Trump campaign has bought more than $ 1 million in ads that are expected to run in Minnesota in the last days before the election.

According to Real Clear Politics, Biden has a comfortable lead over Trump in Minnesota polls. Biden has 48 percent of voter support, while Trump has 42 percent.

More than 75 million people in the US have participated in some form of early voting, according to the US Election Project.
