MANILA – Singer-actor Sonny Parsons, best known as a member of the boyhood OPM Hagibis boy group in the 70s and 80s, passed away on Sunday, May 10 at age 61.
Her son Jeff Parsons told ABS-CBN News that his father succumbed to a possible heart attack due to heat stroke between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Tayabas, Quezon, while running a charity campaign with his motorcycle club, the Philippine Association of Police Brokers (LERAP).
“We still don’t have full details of his last moments,” said young Parsons who, as of this writing, is on his way with his family from Parsons’ residence in Marikina to the Islamic Center in Taguig.
He said the family has yet to finalize Parsons’ burial arrangement following Muslim tradition.
“It was a datu and we will see how to carry out his desire to be cremated,” he said.
At the height of their success, Parsons and Hagibis produced “Katawan”, “Legs” and other hit songs that extolled Pinoy’s manhood.
Parsons also became a leading action star in the 1990s.
He was elected councilor for Marikina in the late 1990s.
Parsons last performed with Hagibis at Imelda Papin’s Filipino Arena concert and was scheduled to tour Australia this year.
