CEBU CITY, Philippines – Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas said he plans to meet with stakeholders to discuss the recommendation of the Interagency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) to put the city under general community quarantine (GCQ))
At a press conference on Wednesday May 13, 2020, Gullas said that putting Talisay City under GCQ is not as simple as it sounds.
This would involve consultations from the various sectors that would be greatly affected by the GCQ, including the business sector, the police and traffic management.
“I have to consult with everyone involved. Tomorrow, I will meet with the Chamber of Commerce in Talisay because sila man gyod ang affected others on what to open and the workforce. Another akong klarohon taste is the guidelines at GCQ, ”said the mayor.
(I have to consult with everyone involved. Tomorrow, I will meet with the Chamber of Commerce in Talisay because they will be the most affected about what to open and the workforce. Another one that I want to clarify is the GCQ guidelines.)
Gullas is concerned that some establishments have workers who live in Cebu City, which is still under the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).
Is Makatrabaho in Talisay nya makabalik pa sila in Cebu City? Kung ingon ana, di ba kaha na more dangerous? Gullas said.
(Can they continue working in Talisay and can they return to Cebu City? If that’s the case, won’t it be more dangerous?)
The mayor said that this is why the city government needs to listen to the concerns and ideas of the industries in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Gullas said he is friendly to Cebu governor Gwendolyn Garcia’s plans to establish a temporary bus terminal in the city for towns and cities in the southern province.
The mayor said that they are now looking for a viable location for the temporary bus terminal. / bmjo
