MALOLOS CITY, Philippines – Bulacán Governor Daniel Fernando tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Friday (Aug 28), but will continue to perform his duties online while undergoing mandatory isolation for 14 days , it announced in a statement on Saturday (August 29).
The governor said he remains asymptomatic.
Fernando took the test because he was exposed to board member Ramil Capistrano, who is a coronavirus patient. Capistrano posted his condition on social media earlier in the week. It is also asymptomatic.
“Let us bear in mind that even world leaders and high government officials have been infected with the virus, as it does not spare anyone and is disrespectful to people, whoever they are. Therefore, I ask everyone to act responsibly and continue to observe health standards and protocols to save lives, ”said Fernando.
On Thursday (August 27), Capistrano attended a virtual session of the Provincial Board where the official said that he was fine while he was in quarantine at his home in the town of San Rafael.
Fernando ordered the province’s contact tracing team to locate the people he had interacted with prior to undergoing quarantine.
Fernando said his absence from the Capitol will not interrupt the provision of basic services, which he will continue to supervise from home.
