Government orders withdrawal of ABS-CBN frequencies – The Manila Times

A month after 70 lawmakers voted against ABS-CBN’s application for franchise renewal, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) issued an order Thursday recalling the frequencies that were assigned to the network.

In an eight-page decision drawn up on Wednesday, a copy of which was released to the media on Thursday, the regulator said that “the withdrawal of the radio frequencies assigned to the Respondent is justified,” as the network can no longer “install, operate and maintain broadcasting stations in the Philippines.”

By virtue of the decision, the NTC ordered the withdrawal of frequencies and channels assigned to the firm led by López, which included five AM radio stations; 18 FM radio stations; and 42 TV stations; and 10 Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting stations (DTTB).

He said that all provincial authorities and certificates of public convenience granted to ABS-CBN in accordance with the Republic Law 7966 are revoked.

He added that the pending requests and petitions of the group before the CNT “are also denied.”
