MANILA (TO UPDATE) – The government announced a P3 million reward on Saturday for the arrest of three more suspects behind the deadly twin bombings in Jolo, Sulu earlier this week.

A photo published by the local government of the city of Zamboanga identified Andi Baso, Reski Fantasya alyas Cici, both Indonesian citizens, and Filipino Mundi Sawadjaan as members of the Abu Sayyaf terrorist group.

They are wanted for the twin bombings that killed 15 people and injured 75 others on Monday.

The army suspects that Sawadjaan, the nephew of Abu Sayyaf leader Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan, is the mastermind behind the terrorist attack. Authorities previously said that 2 suicide bombers, widows of Abu Sayyaf terrorists, had carried out the attacks.

The Armed Forces also tagged the young Sawadjaan in the bombing of the Jolo Cathedral in January 2019, where 20 deaths were recorded and more than 100 were injured.

Sawadjaan and his henchmen reportedly fled to the Zamboanga Peninsula following the terrorist attack in Sulu.

This prompted the mayor of Zamboanga city, Beng Climaco, to put his city on red alert.

“We have to increase the alert state because they gave us information … that the Jolo suicide bombers have escaped and represent a terrorist threat in the Zamboanga peninsula,” said Climaco, who chairs the Regional Council for Peace and Order (RPOC) , at an online press conference.

He also asked his constituents to be careful now that there is a threat to security in the city.

We are alerting everyone, our compatriots in Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), let us be alert, whether it is a suicide attack or a vehicle bomb attack, we are asking the barangays to be alert in order to deter threats in our region “, said.

(We are alerting everyone, those in Region 9, let us be alert, be it a suicide attack or a bomb attack on a vehicle, we are asking our barangays to be alert so that we can deter the threat in our region).

The mayor also instructed the Philippine Navy and the Philippine Coast Guard to increase maritime capacity, including strict checkpoints, following COVID-19 protocols.

“We are asking our security forces to go down to the barangays, we have to be alert so that we can prevent, anticipate and deter acts of terrorism in our areas of jurisdiction,” he added.

Meanwhile, local officials from Jolo, Sulu confirmed that a lockdown was implemented starting Saturday. – with reports from Jewel Reyes, ABS-CBN News
