Golden State Warriors get bad news on NBA Draft night

The potential for a Golden State Warriors return to their dynastic ways may have become moot on NBA Draft night, when the news came about 90 minutes before the festivities from guard Klay Thompson. suffered a right leg injury during training in Southern California.

The only good news here, if there is any, is that this is not the same leg that Thompson had surgery on to repair a torn ACL that forced him to miss the entire 2019-20 season. There was immediate speculation about the effect this news would have on the Warriors in terms of what they would do with the No. 2 pick in the draft.

Well, the Warriors did what the Warriors always do, and they took the guy they had supposedly been staring at the whole time in James Wiseman, a 7-foot-1 big man, a Memphis center.

While the joy of adding a highly touted young prospect is certainly running through the Warriors organization, one can’t help but imagine that any celebration must be a bit watered down given the news received less than two hours prior.

The story was initially broken on Twitter by Shams Charania of Athletic and Stadium. That report was followed minutes later by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Since the initial report, multiple outlets have reported that the Warriors fear Thompson’s injury could be a problem. Achilles injury ‘significant’. Everyone in the association hopes this is not the case, as Thompson has been out of action since he tore his ACL during the 2019 Finals against the Toronto Raptors.

Hopefully, for the sake of Klay Thompson, the Warriors organization, and the fans, this injury is nothing more than a serious sprain at best. But, if it’s a more serious injury that will delay the splash brothers’ return even once more, the Warriors will officially be in fight mode to find a starting-caliber guard at the start of training camp on December 1.
