(CNN Philippines, January 8) – Globe Telecom, which received the threat of closure from President Rodrigo Duterte last year due to its poor services, has proposed to deploy its fifth generation (5G) network in Malacañang.

In a statement on Friday, the telecommunications company led by Ayala said it has already submitted its design and upgrade proposals to the Palace. Globe also prepared 5G upgrade plans for the Senate and House of Representatives.

The buildings to be covered are Kalayaan Hall, Mabini Hall and Presidential Guest House in Malacanang; the Senate and GSIS buildings in the Senate; and in the Main, North, and South Buildings of the House of Representatives, Ramón V. Mitra and the Legislative Library of the Lower House.

According to the listed firm, the project, which could receive approval in January, will take at least eight to 16 weeks.

“These buildings house key branches of our government that in turn provide immediate and basic services to our nation. By upgrading our interior solutions, our new system will increase and increase capacity and extend coverage to provide broader service access within these offices, “said Joel. Agustín, Senior Vice President of Program Delivery for Globe, Network Technical Group.

“Also, these important government offices will be 5G ready, so internet services will be much faster and better,” he added.

It was in July 2019 that Globe launched its 5G services to its home subscribers, leading the race in the local 5G space.

At the end of last year, the telecommunications company made its 5G mobile service commercially available for selected areas of the capital. It is also expanding the reach of the network in Visayas and Mindanao.

Both Globe and PLDT have been increasing their respective networks following Duterte’s statement in July of last year.
