MANILA – Barangay Geneva edged to a 2-0 lead in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Finals after submitting TNT Tropang Giga, 92-90, in Game 2 of their championship series Wednesday for the night at the Cultural and Sports Center of the Universidad de Angeles Foundation in Pampanga.

Scottie Thompson, who sent Geneva into the final with a winning triple in Game 5 of their semifinal clash with Meralco Bolts, dropped another triple lead with 30 seconds left to finally give his team victory.

The 3-pointer highlighted the decisive 13-1 streak that completed Barangay’s comeback from a seven-point deficit with just over four minutes before both teams exchanged baskets at the end.

Thompson’s game winner turned out to be his only point in Game 2 as he made up for a poor night in which he was 0-for-4 from the field before the shot and committed six turnovers, although his rebounding prowess was still there with nine boards along with three assists and two steals.

Stanley Pringle shot 34 points with six rebounds, eight dimes and one steal to lead Geneva, who is now halfway to a best-of-seven series.

Aljon Mariano added 20 points on 7 of 11 shots, nine rebounds and one assist from the bench.

LA Tenorio only had five points on free throws, but those charities helped Geneva preserve the victory in the final 18 seconds of the game.

RR Pogoy, who started the season with a 45-point bomb, sizzled again with 40 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals, but the performance still fell short as TNT sorely missed Ray-Ray Parks, who was out due to a calf strain. (PNA)
