Geneva blocks distraction from referee scare with win over Phoenix

BARANGAY Geneva was able to get to work on Wednesday evening despite news of a ‘suspicious case’ reported in the PBA bubble.

The Gin Kings beat Phoenix Super LPG, 86-71, to claim a share of the lead with TNT, hours after the PBA released a statement that a referee was found to have a ‘false negative’ test result within the bubble.

Head coach Tim Cone said the incident caused some concern and the Gin Kings implemented security measures before the game.

“Obviously, there was a lot of talk about it in our Viber group. There was a total quarantine, so none of us can leave the room or visit anyone. We get all of our news on Viber, ”Cone said.

Cone said the Gin Kings also made sure Wednesday’s health situation is not a distraction for the team as they tried to stay undefeated in the clash against the Fuel Masters.

“There was a lot of talk and finally we said, ‘Hey, let’s put it down. We have a game on the way. ‘ Let’s win a game first and then we’ll talk about it again, ”Cone said.

The referee and his close contacts have been isolated at Athlete’s Village in New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac, where they are under observation despite a negative antigen test on Wednesday afternoon.

Like everyone in the bubble, Cone wants the situation resolved as soon as possible so that all teams can focus on playing.

“Hopefully, that is resolved and we continue as normal as possible. It was certainly a topic of conversation. I think we fixed it, we concentrated well and we continued to play, ”Cone said.
