Gayoso elevates ADT to achieve great PFL victory

The third time was the charm for the Azkals Development Team as they finally sealed a victory in the 2020 PFL season sponsored by Qatar Airways with a 2-0 win over Mendiola on Tuesday at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

With the game still on the line, a header from two-time UAAP MVP Jarvey Gayoso finally broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute.

While the debate over his best position won’t be over anytime soon, one thing that can’t be discussed is his deadly instinct in front of goal.

“We gave Jarvey a chance”, said ADT coach Scott Cooper. “He took his goal very well. He showed jerky movements. “

The 23-year-old’s goal opened the floodgates for ADT.

In the 81st minute, former De La Salle green keeper Mathew Custodio tapped the ball off Gayoso’s free kick to seal the three points for Cooper’s men.

The two goals were fitting rewards for the ADT as they had multiple chances to score in the first half.

Mendiola goalkeeper Kenry Balobo denied Chima Uzoka’s attempt with a good save and saved captain Marvin Angeles’ penalty to leave the score blank during that period.

Former Universidad del Este star Mar Diano had the opportunity to give the ADT a three-goal lead late in the match, but his attempt hit the crossbar.

“I congratulate ADT for a good game today”, Mendiola’s coach Dan Padernal said.

Mendiola (0 points) plays Kaya Football Club-Iloilo at 9:00 AM while ADT (3 points) faces Maharlika Manila Football Club later at 4:30 PM on Friday.
