CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Garcias, one of Cebu’s most prominent and influential political families, have brought criminal cases against two doctors who assisted the late Mayor of Barili, Marlon Garcia.

Hua Hospital.
The cases were filed with the Cebu City Prosecutor on December 15, 2020.
CDN Digital has chosen not to reveal the names of the doctors until they have responded to the issue.
Citing the findings of a physician and professor of Medicine and Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine at the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University in Chicago, Dr. Ravi Durvasula, Garcia said that “the lack of observance of care and standard procedure, the use of highly questionable personnel and unnecessary laboratory tests and treatments, and exaggerated or unfounded laboratory results ”from the two doctors led to Marlon’s death.
Marlon died on September 6 due to septic shock secondary to a catheter-related bloodstream infection, ventilator-associated pneumonia, while his other brother, Nelson, succumbed to cardiopulmonary arrest secondary to a probable massive pulmonary embolism. .

Both also tested positive for coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) but the family, citing medical records, said the infection was not the main cause of the siblings’ deaths.
The lawyer Winston García, president of the Cebu CFI Community Cooperative, accused the doctors and the Chong Hua Hospital of having manufactured laboratory tests and results to justify the prolonged stay of his two brothers despite the fact that he declared himself recovered from COVID-19 .

“And this is also reinforced by the insistence of the doctors despite the willingness of my brother (Marlon) to sign the resignation (discharge),” said Winston.
Winston also said they are planning to bring a civil action against Chong Hua Hospital for damages and accused the hospital administration of “prioritizing profits over saving lives.”
He added that they plan to permanently suspend the accreditation of Chong Hua Hospital and discourage members from admitting them to the same hospital.
“They prioritized interest over profits rather than saving the lives of patients admitted there,” Winston said in Cebuano.
CDN Digital has reached out to Chong Hua Hospital for comment, in which a representative said their institution will issue a statement on this development at any time today.
