National athletes and coaches will finally receive their full assignments after President Duterte signed into law the Bayanihan Act 2 or House Bill 6953 on Friday.

The multi-million dollar law aimed at strengthening the government’s response to the pandemic included a budget of 180 million pesos for national athletes and coaches after their allocations were also affected by the global health crisis.

Last May, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) announced that it would temporarily cut the allocations of athletes and coaches in half after the budget of the government sports agency also suffered due to the pandemic.

The PSC budget was cut by 596 million pesos from the National Sports Development Fund and another 773 million dollars from the DBM General Assignments Law, to help in the country’s fight against the pandemic.

PSC President Butch Ramirez said they will reinstate the full allocation of athletes and coaches, as well as previous allocations that were cut to them, once they are handed over by the Department of Budget and Management.
