Fuentebella, former president of the House of Representatives, dies of heart failure at age 74

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 9) – Former House Speaker Arnulfo Fuentebella died Wednesday of heart failure, said his son, Representative Arnie Fuentebella of District 4 of Camarines Sur. He was 74 years old.

“With deep sorrow, we would like to inform our family and friends that Former Spokesperson Arnulfo ‘Noli’ P. Fuentebella passed away this morning, September 9, 2020,” said the young Fuentebella on his Facebook page. “He succumbed to heart failure after battling kidney disease for nearly two years.”

Details of the funeral will be released in the coming days, “he added.

Arnulfo Fuentebella assumed the presidency of the XI Congress in 2000, after the then representative of the city of Las Piñas, Manny Villar, was overthrown.

But Fuentebella was also deposed two months after a coup in the House. He was replaced by the then representative of Quezon City, Feliciano Belmonte, Jr.

Fuentebella also served as a congressman for the 3rd district of Camarines Sur during the 9, 10, 11, 13 and 14 congresses and for the fourth district in the 15 and 17 congresses.

Meanwhile, Malacanang expressed his condolences to the Fuentebella family.

“The time and effort he gave to improve the condition of his beloved district will always be remembered by his constituents,” the Palace said in a statement.
