Her son, the Mayor of Malabon, Lenlen Oreta, said he passed away Thursday night. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Maria Teresa Aquino-Oreta was elected senator in 1998 and served during the 11th Congress. Before joining the Senate, he was a member of the House of Representatives for three consecutive terms, from 1987 to 1998, representing the Malabon-Navotas district.
She was the younger sister of former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., whose murder in 1983 sparked a series of protests that led to the “popular power” revolt that ousted then-strong Ferdinand Marcos in 1986.
She is survived by her husband Antolin Oreta Jr. and four children.
