LEGASPI CITY, Albay: A former radio operator in Sorsogon who had moved to the Balangibog News FB Online portal was shot and killed shortly after posting a statement about a quarry operation.

Jobert Bercasio, a former DZMS radio reporter, was shot around 7:55 pm Monday near the XTRM Seabreeze Homes subdivision, Barangay Cabid-an, Sorsogon City, according to a police report.

Bercasio, 39, is a resident of Purok 3, Dancalan Site, Barangay Buenavista, Bacon District, Sorsogon City.

The report says he was on a scooter coming from Sorsogon when he was assaulted by two motorcycle suspects who shot him four times, hitting different parts of his body and killing him.

A month ago, “DJ Boodie” from Padaba FM in the city of Bulan was also shot in front of his house.

Maria Luisa Calubaquid, regional spokeswoman for the Philippine National Police-Bicol, said they were investigating the incident.

On his personal Facebook page, Bercasio complained that the trucks came from a “quarry area” in the city of Bulan, which he claimed lacked the proper documents.

He was described as a “blunt” commentator who addressed the quarry operation, among other topics, including the alleged illegal logging in the town of Sorsogon.

If Bercasio’s assassination is proven to be job-related, he will be the 17th journalist killed in the line of duty under President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration and the 189th since 1986.
