CONSUMATE leader, good older brother to younger teammates, fierce competitor.

Such accolades and tributes reached former Barangay Ginebra and Purefoods gunner Emilio “Nonoy” Chuatico when news of his passing in the United States broke on Saturday.

Chuatico, a first-round draft pick from Geneva in 1992, passed away after a long fight with cancer. He was 55 years old.

“A great teammate and vocal leader who would always give words of encouragement. I will always thank Noy and his guide. Rest well, Manong,” said former Ateneo teammate and now Geneva assistant coach Olsen Racela.

Chuatico was captain of the Ateneo Blue Eagles which won the school’s first UAAP crown in 1987 before playing the same role on the Philippine team that won the Southeast Asian Games crown before the home crowd at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in 1991.
