Netizens, friends and former colleagues offered their condolences to the family of Jakosalem, who is known as “Jack the Wack” on Y101 FM radio station, following the report of his passing.

Cebu City Deputy Mayor Michael Rama mourned the loss of a close ally, who he said was one of the first members of the Barug Team Rama.

“I am saddened to hear of the passing of a good friend, a radio DJ and a public servant, Sylvan ‘Jack the Wack’ Jakosalem. Jack served in Cebu City as a city councilor and former head of CITOM, where he bravely advocated for solutions to trafficking, including opposition to the controversial constriction of two flyovers. He was a passionate advocate for a more livable Cebu city. “

“Jack is one of the original members of Team Rama. He joined us in 2012 when he shared many of our principles. It was an honor for us to work with a man with such dedication and steadfast courage in his defenses. I will miss all the conversations we had and all the good times we shared. ‘Jack the Wack’ signs today. We will miss you, Jack, ”said Rama.

Councilman Alvin Dizon, a colleague, also recalled his days working for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and social programs.

“Jack Jakosalem was a very hardworking councilor. During my NGO days, I partnered with his office on social programs (before I became a city councilor). I also grew up listening to him as Jack the Wack on FM station Y101 in the late ’80s and’ 90s. Goodbye to former city councilman Jack Jakosalem and may the eternal light shine on you, ”Dizon said.

The council is scheduled to honor the three-term councilor in Wednesday’s regular session.

Jakosalem ran under the Barug party for another term as a councilor in 2013, but fell into a coma before the election.

A year earlier, he underwent brain surgery due to neurocysticercosis or a parasitic disease in the nervous system.
