PERHAPS no country is more suitable for Eduard “Landslide” Folayang to propel his journey back to the lightweight world title than Singapore.

After all, Lion City has been good to him and his mixed martial arts career.

So when he faces Antonio “The Spartan” Caruso on one of the main cards in One: Inside the Martrix on October 30 at Singapore’s Indoor Stadium, Folayang is confident that he will replicate the previous magic he had in the country.

“It always starts in Singapore,” Folayang told the Philippine Sports Writers Association (PSA) online forum on Tuesday. “Regaining the belt is very important to me, the Lakay team and the country for the third time.”

A quick glance at the former world champion’s resume and his fondness for that country will be understood.

It was in Singapore that he began to make a name for himself in the international arena, going undefeated en route to headlining the first One event in 2011.

At the same venue in 2016, he achieved the biggest victory of his career, a third-round TKO over Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki to win the world lightweight title for the first time.

He is currently 6-1 win-lost in Singapore and his head coach Mark Sangiao is confident that he will improve his record after this event.

“We are claiming this! We claim that Eduard is the lightweight champion again. I believe in him, and as long as the fire is still there, I believe he can still do it, ”said Sangiao, who joined Folayang in the session presented by San Miguel Beer, Go For Gold, Milo, Amelie Hotel Manila, Braska. Restaurant and Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. and with Smart technology with Upstream Media as the official Internet streaming partner.

There is no better time for Folayang to return because they have been active since the lockdown began in March.
