Filipinos are among the top five K-pop fans this year, says Twitter data

Filipinos are among the biggest fans of K-pop based on their unique voices and the most posts on Twitter.

Twitter celebrates 10 years of K-pop community through the hashtag #KpopTwitter where it became the largest global conversation on the microblogging platform.

In the past 12 months, amid the new coronavirus pandemic, 6.1 billion K-pop-related tweets were found in nearly 20 markets or countries around the world.

Of these, the Philippines It was ranked fifth among markets with unique voices on K-pop and fourth with the highest volume of tweets.

Fans from the United States topped the ranking for unique voices or users, followed by Japan, South Korea, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the market with the highest volume of K-pop tweets is Thailand, followed by South Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines and the United States.

Since 2010, Twitter’s K-pop community has also grown exponentially with more than 300 K-pop topics through artist names that users could follow on the microblogging platform.

Twitter partnered with K-pop Radar to publish relevant data on music and the industry in these markets from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020.

In the Philippines, multi-award-winning group Bts was the most mentioned artist this year. They were followed by other popular groups from South Korea. Blackpink, EXO, Tomorrow x together and TWICE.

Meanwhile, EXO’s latest hit “Obsession” topped the list of the most mentioned K-pop songs on the platform.

BTS’s songs still made up six of the ten songs on the list, which are “ON”, “Boy with Luv”, “Black Swan”, “Shadow”, “DNA” and “Fake Love”.

Among emerging K-pop artists, labelmate Tomorrow x Together has the fastest growth in tweets among Filipino fans.

Other fast-growing K-pop groups include StRay Kids, IZ * ONE, ITZY and ATEEZ.

In line with this, YeonJeong Kim, The director of Twitter’s Global K-Pop Partnerships thanked the global fan community who joined Twitter to engage in conversations and stay up-to-date on developments involving their favorite artists over the past decade.
