The Filipino-American prospect Gilas Sage Tolentino will play NCAA Division I basketball with Auburn University, he announced Thursday.

“My family and I have prayed for this day since I was a child. I am more than blessed and give God all the glory,” Tolentino said. “The core traditions of Auburn University are passion and spirit and they are exactly the program I want to spend my time developing to the next level. It’s great to be an Auburn Tiger. War Eagle!”

Auburn, playing in a Southeastern Conference (SEC) that he topped in 2019 as the fifth seed, recently made the Final Four under head coach Bruce Pearl.

Some of his most famous NBA alumni include Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, former Rookie of the Year Chuck Person, and former All-Stars Mike Mitchell and Eddie Johnson.

The 16-year-old from Hawaii has two more years left in high school and will prepare for the Tigers in 2022. He had previously received offers from Kansas, Kentucky, Tennessee State and Cincinnati.

Tolentino recently led Maryknoll High School to back-to-back Division I titles at the HHSSA after posting 13.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game.
