PHILIPPINE-AMERICAN Jackie Buntan scored a huge surprise after a unanimous decision over two-time Thai Muay Thai champion Wondergirl Fairtex at ONE Championship: Fists of Fury on Friday February 26, 2021 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.
Fairtex, coming off back-to-back knockout wins, was on the attack in the first round, but Buntan felt comfortable on defense. She successfully defended and countered the Fairtex offense. Near the end of the round, Buntan dropped Fairtex with a counter left hook.
Buntan continued to hurt Fairtex in the second round, landing combinations of punches to the head and body.
In the third round, Buntan continued to land and evade Fairtex’s blows by moving around the cage. Fairtex couldn’t take advantage of his daunting power because he couldn’t land clear punches on Buntan.
Buntan improved to 21-6 and will likely be a future contender in the strawweight division.
