Fifth agriculture, infrastructure damage surpasses the P700 million mark

Typhoon Quinta’s damage to agriculture and infrastructure has further increased, even as much of southern Luzon and the Bicol regions, and some areas in the Visayas, remain without power.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) also set the death toll at 16 with 22 injured and four other people still missing.

According to the latest NDRRMC report, damage with an estimated total value of P737,129,545 was initially assessed in agriculture and infrastructure in Regions 1, 3, 5 and 6 and in Mimaropa and Calabarzon.

Only in Quezón, which is one of the provinces most affected by the typhoon, Governor Danilo Suárez reported that at least P488 million in crops have been damaged. Several roads from farm to market were also destroyed.

The NDRRMC said Quinta, which hit a large area of ​​Luzon and parts of the Visayas earlier this week, destroyed 29,528 houses and affected a population of more than 57,000 families in more than 1,000 barangays.

The typhoon also generated flooding and landslides through Thursday with at least 29 stretches of roads and five bridges out of the total 105 roads and 22 bridges that were affected are still closed to motorists.

Utility personnel are still working to restore power in most of the affected areas, although power has been restored in a total of 61 of the 213 municipalities that have previously reported power outages.

The NDRRMC said assessment, restoration and cleanup work continues in the areas affected by the typhoon.
