The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) said on Monday that the world championship match will take place from August 25 to September 10, 2023, with the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia as host countries.
The announcement was greeted with a warm welcome from Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).
“This is certainly positive news, as it is something to look forward to in the midst of the difficult situation facing everyone now,” SBP President Al Panlilio said in a statement.
There will be a 15-month qualification period before the games, the local sports association discovered, and the 32 basketball teams that will emerge strongest will be those that will compete for the gold final.
Participants will include players from all regions of Africa, America, Asia-Oceania, and Europe.

This marks the return of the world tournament to the country driven by basketball after more than 40 years. The Philippines last organized the event in 1978.
