‘Fan Girl’ bags MMFF 2020 Best Film Award

MANILA, Philippines – The dark fantasy film “Fan Girl” emerged from the awards night of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) as the biggest winner, taking the Best Picture award, while lead stars Paulo Avelino and Charlize Dizon and director Antonette Jadaone bagged individual plums. .

During the MMFF Gabi ng Parangal that was held remotely on Sunday, the film shows Avelino playing himself to Dizon as a fan. The film also took home the coveted awards for Best Screenplay, Best Sound, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography.

The film received critical acclaim for tackling a controversial topic: fans’ obsession with celebrities and actresses.

  • Best Visual Effects / Best Production Design / Best Musical Score – “Magikland”
  • Best Original Song: “The Boy Foretold by the Stars”
  • Cultural Award – “Suárez: the curator priest”
  • Gender Sensitivity Award: “The child predicted by the stars”
  • Best Child Artist: Seiyo Masunaga in “The Missing”
  • Best Supporting Actress – Shaina Magdayao in “Tagpuan”
  • Best Supporting Actor: Michael de Mesa in “Another Rainbow”
