There are so many moments that stand out in Star Wars. There is the truth bomb from Darth Vader who is the father of Luke Skywalker. Or the scene “I love you” / “I know” of Leia and Han Solo. There’s Anakin’s pod race, or his “I hate the sand” part with Padmé when he’s 19 years old. But one of the most important moments in the entire franchise is Order 66. It was the turning point in the Clone Wars, it means where Anakin Skywalker ends and Darth Vader begins, and it hurts to think about that, too.
And in order to Star Wars, the Clone Wars, fans can finally see how this infamous event unfolded for Ahsoka and Rex, two beloved characters. Someone edited the events of Order 66 in real time, and it’s … hard to see
Reddit user u / BattleScones made a popular post on the Star Wars Reddit page on May 1, the morning Episode 11, “Shredded” premiered. The episode shows Ahsoka, Rex, and the rest of their 332nd Company leaving Mandalore after successfully trapping Maul. They returned to Coruscant to hand him over to the Jedi when Anakin turns to the Dark Side.
It is actually a very emotional moment at the end of Ahsoka because she is so connected to her former master that she bows under the weight of her betrayal. The audience listens to the Revenge of the Sith scene where he cuts off Mace Windu’s hand, and Palpatine wins. And we can clearly see that Ahsoka feels it too.
It is one thing for the public to know that Order 66 is a general directive and that all clones within shooting distance of a Jedi are killing them. It shows quite well in Episode III. But it is another thing to see that everything happens side by side. Well, this video does that. With clips of the new The Clone Wars episode, Revenge of the Sithand Jedi: fallen order, offers a rough real-time version of Order 66 and plays the soundtrack of Episode III. If you didn’t cry while watching the episode, now you’re crying.
Order 66 is one of the most monumental and significant events in all the “Star Wars”
Order 66 is the beginning of a new era in Star Wars. The original trilogy occurs in this era, years later. When fans first saw Star Wars in 1973, that was the heyday of the Empire with Emperor Palpatine at the helm of it all. Darth Vader was his apprentice, who did much of his dirty work for him. The Rebellion was also there, trying to undo all the evil the Empire did. And that’s powered by Order 66, the Jedi Purge.
Now that we have more of the context for this event, after seven seasons of meeting the clones, it’s harder to see Revenge of the Sith. Especially when you know how closely the clones worked with the Jedi in charge of them. They respected them and, as Anakin told Ahsoka in Episode 9, “loyalty is everything to the clones.” Seeing Wolfpack’s weapon shoot down Plo Koon mid-flight hits harder when you know that bond between them. And then see it from Ahsoka’s side? It really solidifies Order 66 as one of the most heartbreaking moments in Star Wars.
For Dave Filoni, it was important to show Ahsoka and Rex’s side of the end of the war.
Dave Filoni, the series’ supervising director and executive producer, has said he entered this season trying to show other perspectives on this time period. I didn’t want to reiterate things that already exist on the screen. So instead of showing off a bunch of Anakin, Obi-Wan, Padmé, and others, he really focused on Ahsoka and Rex. Since none of those characters got a resolution. The show was canceled, and then they appeared on Star Wars Rebels.
In an episode of “Download Clone Wars” this season, Filoni explained how the season was divided into three arcs.
“Every arc of history in the last 12 episodes gives you an important piece of the end of the war,” Filoni said. “The clone perspective, Ahsoka’s perspective, and then the ending, bringing those two together. Because, in the end, The Clone Wars to me is about Ahsoka and Rex.”
With only one episode remaining, the series is entering unknown territory. The Clone Wars are over, the Jedi are dead or in the midst of hunting. How do Ahsoka and Rex get to safety? That the room can’t come soon enough.
