TEHRAN, Iran – The explosion of a chlorine gas canister carried by a truck in western Iran left 217 injured but did not cause any deaths, the state news agency IRNA reported.

The blast occurred Friday night in Chardavol county in Ilam province, the news agency said.

The director of the province’s medical university, Mohammad Karimian, told IRNA that “carelessness” by the driver was suspected.

The incident is the latest in a series of fires and explosions that have affected military and civilian sites across Iran since June.
